L’ultimo saluto ad Alì

Oggi nell’hotspot di Lampedusa Alì, un ragazzo di trent’anni di origine tunisina, si è ucciso impiccandosi. Era nell’isola da ottobre e in più occasioni aveva dato segnali gravi di disagio e di sofferenza che erano stati anche trasmessi alle autorità. Nessuno li ha raccolti e oggi piangiamo un giovane che invece che essere accolto e curato è stato abbandonato alla sua disperazione. Una notizia triste nei giorni in cui si chiude il ciclo delle festività di Natale. Una notizia che merita il nostro impegno per far si che cercare un futuro migliore non sia un condanna ma un’opportunità accessibile e garantita. Paolo Naso, coordinatore di Mediterranean Hope

Today, the 30-years-old Ali, a young boy from Tunisia, took his own life by hanging himself in the hotspot of Lampedusa. He had been living in the island since October and on several occasions, he had given serious signs of distress and suffering that had also been transmitted to the authorities. No one has collected them and today we mourn a young man who instead of being welcomed and cared has been abandoned to his despair. Sad news in the days in which we end the Christmas celebrations. A news that deserves our commitment to ensure that looking for a better future will not be a penance but an accessible and guaranteed opportunity.
